Project Objectives

Create a cinematic music video for Hopeless by Switch Off, built around the emotional arc of a toxic relationship slowly burning out over time.

The goal was to translate abstract emotion into powerful visuals — combining intimacy, destruction, and contrast — to create a story that feels both raw and visually striking.

Develop a narrative centered on:

• emotional intensity and vulnerability

• contrast between beauty and destruction

• the slow collapse of a relationship

The concept focused on using visual metaphors — especially fire — to represent how a relationship can gradually consume everything.

Production

Execute the entire production with a minimal setup:

• 1 director / camera operator

• 1 artist

• 1 model

Shot across multiple locations in Bali, including:

• remote beaches

• rice fields

• luxury villas

• urban and natural environments

Key visual elements:

• a vintage red car as a recurring symbol

• real rain scenes capturing emotional breakdown

• gothic-inspired styling and atmosphere

• intimate performance moments

Special sequences included:

• controlled fire elements on the beach

• symbolic shots of burning water

• scenes representing emotional destruction and loss

The production required a run-and-gun approach, adapting quickly to weather, light, and real environments while maintaining a strong cinematic direction.

Post-Production

Edit the video into a cohesive emotional narrative with a slow, building intensity.

Use pacing, music alignment, and color grading to enhance:

• contrast between warmth (fire) and coldness (rain, isolation)

• emotional progression of the relationship

Create a visual rhythm that mirrors the gradual breakdown and final collapse.

Results

The final video delivers a visually powerful and emotionally driven story that stands out through its symbolism and raw execution.
